Atelierhof Werenzhain Artist Residency with Agor Abertawe

In the summer of 2024 Rhiannon joined a cohort of artists from Agor Abertawe on an Artist Residency to Atelierhof Werenzhain in East Germany. The residency lasted ten days and included trips to new cities and time to create new works for Rhiannon in the land surrounding the Atelierhof.

Thank you to Arts Wales International for supporting the residency. Secondly, thank you to Cartin Grose, Iris Ströber and Maysun of Atelierhof Werenzhain for hosting us. Finally, thank you to Chris Bird-Jones, Sarah Hopkins, Rose Davies and Rhian Haf for sharing their art practices and stories throughout the residency.

Through the residency Rhiannon was able to spend two days exploring Berlin and the exhibitions in the city. She and the group also visited Dresden, which included a site visit to the Dresden Print Workshop. Rhiannon also visited the Tannery museum located near the Atelierhof which echoed the woollen industry of Wales.

Rhiannon spent her time on the residency to explore the land in and around the Atelierhof. She used materials from the place with elements she had brought with her from Wales including woad dyed welsh wool. Rather than focusing on her usual painting practice she used her time to explore sculptural ideas she had been thinking about for some time. Expanding her ideas of painting.
