Gentle Painting Project

The Gentle Painting Project invited Pembrokeshire communities to join together to map the beautiful colours of their home county. Each person is invited to send or bring with them a small sample of earth, rock or clay from their garden to add to a pallet of sustainable paints to a series of workshops. Communities were able to join Rhiannon in St Davids and Span Arts to learn how to make gentle paints. The project ended with a tea and painting party where everyone was able to use the gentle paints to share their own love stories to Pembrokeshire.

Thank you to Span Arts for commissioning the project and thank you to all the participants who shared their land with Rhiannon.

The project took Rhiannon across Pembrokeshire collect natural materials. She was also able to work with a regarded Pembrokeshire geologist to learn further about the land under foot.

“I will rest my bones here,

In this place of rough seas and rock,

In its jagged rusting cliffs and beds of seaweed,

My body will sink into its pebbles,

The only sounds are the tide washing in and the stream which finds its way home.”
